Takarazuka Revue is now set to showcase a musical adaptation of Chie Shinohara’s “Red River,” a hugely popular manga title serialized in Shōjo Comic, published by SHOGAKUKAN Inc., from 1995 to 2002.
Hittite Empire in Anatolia, the 14th century B.C.— Third prince Kail, seen as the heir to the throne owing to his brilliance and bloodline, encounters Yuri Suzuki, a modern-age high-school girl who was pulled back through time to the 14th century B.C. to be used as a human sacrifice. When Kail finds that Yuri was summoned by Tawananna (Queen) Nakia, who was conspiring to kill off all other princes but her son in order to secure him the throne, he takes Yuri as his concubine and keeps her close to protect her. Naturally infused with a powerful sense of justice and a modern way of thinking, Yuri eventually wins the hearts of the people and becomes revered as the living incarnation of the goddess of war, Ishtar. In the course of time, Kail develops a deep love for Yuri and wishes to take her as Tawananna to together strive in building his ideal country. Yuri too, desires to stay with Kail. But things aren’t that easy and many obstacles lie ahead of them, including Yuri’s return to her time and the conflicts with the great powers, the Mitanni kingdom and Egypt, in addition to Nakia’s conspiracy.
The new Cosmos Troupe, featuring Suzuho Makaze, takes on this romantic historical fantasy set in the Ancient Near East.
