Announcement of the Programs for the 3rd Takarazuka Revue Performance in Taiwan

2017/12/28

As previously announced, the Takarazuka Revue will hold the 3rd Takarazuka Revue performance in Taiwan in autumn 2018.
To that end, we proudly present the programs decided for these performances. The first act will consist of a performance of "Thunderbolt Fantasy Sword Seekers", a series that has aired on Japanese TV as a Japan–Taiwan joint video production. This popular series is a collaboration between Pili International Multimedia—a company that strives to portray traditional Taiwanese glove puppet plays in a contemporary setting—and Gen Urobuchi, a popular Japanese scenarist. A true product of cultural exchange between Japan and Taiwan, this ambitious performance is full of anticipation for how well the tale translates to the Takarazuka Revue Stage. Then, in the second act, Yuzuru Kurenai—top star of the Start troupe—lends her talents to a luxuriously glamorous performance of "Killer Rouge".

Please note that, prior to the Taipei performances, "Thunderbolt Fantasy Sword Seekers" and "Killer Rouge" will also be performed at the Umeda Arts Theater and Nippon Seinenkan halls. Performance details are as follows.

A Martial Arts Musical from Another Dimension
Script and direction by Naoko Koyanagi

Overflowing with characters with unique personalities—including Rin Setsu A, the mysterious protagonist—"Thunderbolt Fantasy Sword Seekers" is a martial-arts fantasy with thrilling tactics and fight sequences set in a different world with strong oriental colors. This popular tale began as a TV series in 2016, followed by a theatrical debut in December 2017, and then picked up for a second season in 2018. This topical tale will be presented in the 3rd Takarazuka Revue Performance in Taiwan as a first musical development of source material popular not only in Japan and Taiwan but throughout Asia.

* The original "Thunderbolt Fantasy Sword Seekers":
It is hard to find someone in Taiwan who isn’t familiar with glove puppet plays, a form of traditional glove puppet plays enjoyed by both children and adults.
In collaboration with Pili International Multimedia—one of the most recognizable and revered puppet theater production companies, Gen Urobuchi (Nitroplus Co., Ltd.)—a popular scenarist most known in anime and gaming circles—creates a completely new story with characters designed by Nitroplus, a content manufacturer. The series caught the attention of hobby product manufacturer Good Smile Company, which joined the project as modeling advisors, and in 2016 "Thunderbolt Fantasy Sword Seekers" was newly developed for TV as a Japan–Taiwan joint video production.

Takarazuka Wonder Stage
Written and directed by Yoshimasa Saito

This "Killer" is an English slang term for "wonderful", "good-looking", and "fascinating".
"Rouge", meanwhile, is the theme color of the show which sees Yuzuru Kurenai—top star of the Star troupe—acts as multi-talented entertainer delivering a glamorous, gorgeous world unique to Takarazuka Revue.
Enjoy this production of "Killer Rouge", which adds to performances at both the Takarazuka Grand Theater and the Tokyo Takarazuka Theater.
