“CASANOVA”Written and directed by Hirokazu Ikuta, Composed by Dove Attia
Born in 18th century Venice, Giacomo Casanova enjoyed his earthly affairs across Europe during the glamorous days of the Rococo era. At times a poet and writer, at other times a priest, a con man, an alchemist, and a spy. Based on the checkered life of Casanova through his many faces, this epic musical spectacle breathes life into his adventures through love and dreams with an original story starring Rio Asumi.
Casanova, depicted as the “lover of all” in numerous films and other works of performing art, is revived on the stage of the Takarazuka Revue along with music exclusively written by Dove Attia, renowned for his other works, “Le Roi Soleil (The Sun King),” “1789,” and “La Légende du roi Arthur (The Legend of King Arthur).”
Notorious for his immoral behavior with women, Casanova is sent to Piombi Prison, otherwise known as “The Leads,” for an affront to the common decency of Venice. However, with a carefully laid plan, he escapes from the prison at the height of the Carnival!! Upon noticing Casanova on the run in the confusion of the festivities and crowds of the Carnival, the women of the town rush to aid his escape attempt, causing further chaos!! Amid the upheaval, Casanova meets a young woman: Beatrice, the niece of the governor of Venice who has just completed her service at a convent. Their encounter sets fate’s wheels in motion for Casanova.
In his quest for true love, Casanova finally ends his wandering.
Set in the floating city of Venice, a new adventure of Casanova begins!!
