Story

“Flügel -The Wings You Gave Me-”

The story is set in East Germany. Jonas Heinrich, a captain in the Land Forces of the National People’s Army, is currently assigned to work at the country’s Ministry for Culture. One day, he is appointed as the organizer of the peace concert featuring West German pop star Nadia Schneider, a super idol taking the world by storm. The wave of democratization sweeping across Europe has also reached East Germany, prompting the government to plan a concert in the capital city, Berlin, to alleviate public discontent. While the concert is said to be not only a goodwill event but also for the future of East and West Germany, an anonymous warning of a terrorist act is delivered that will put Nadia in danger. Jonas reluctantly agrees to work as a bodyguard for the pop star, even though he is not happy about it. Meanwhile, Jonas’s friend Helmut Wolff, a Stasi officer, is determined to stem the tide toward democracy and prevent the unification of East and West Germany at any cost.
Nadia arrives in East Berlin with her manager, Luis Wagner. Jonas explains East Germany’s intention for the concert to Nadia, but the free-spirited Nadia never listens to him. Disgusted by each other’s actions and words, Jonas and Nadia quarrel every time they meet. However, Jonas is profoundly touched when he hears Nadia singing a song called “Flügel”. The song is special to him; he and his beloved mother used to sing it when he was little, sharing memories of his late father. The two, who finally reach out to each other through music, vow to make the concert a success. But Helmut has been conducting surveillance on them…
The peace concert is about to begin. While Jonas does his best to keep Nadia out of harm’s way, the threat of a terrorist is looming closer to her. How will Jonas deal with the crisis?
What lies ahead for Jonas and Nadia as the citizens dream of and call for the fall of the Berlin Wall dividing east and west?
