Great detective Kogoro Akechi and the enigmatic female thief Black Lizard. Within their thrilling game of pursuit and evasion, a solitary, unspoken love gradually blossoms between hunter and hunted.
Created by Ranpo Edogawa and later transformed into a stage play by Yukio Mishima, “Black Lizard” has been repeatedly staged with a wide variety of casts and directions. This dazzling landmark in the history of Japanese theater was previously presented by the Takarazuka Revue as a Flower Troupe production in 2007.
This production brings Takarazuka Revue’s quintessential romanticism into this reimagination of the original world Edogawa first envisioned and Mishima developed into the drama form. This new, large-scale adaptation of “Black Lizard” will be brought to life by Cosmos Troupe under top star Minato Sakuragi.
...Having emerged from the devastation of war and entered a period of rapid economic growth, the capital city of Tokyo is once again turning its gaze toward a future of glittering prosperity. The artificial radiance of the newly opened Tokyo Tower—a symbol of postwar reconstruction and momentum—shines brilliantly against the night sky.
Yet beyond the reach of that light lies an underworld, a twilight city lurking in the shadows, where two figures command attention. One is great detective Kogoro Akechi. Through his exploits, he leads countless perplexing cases—beyond even the grasp of the police—to their resolution, silently safeguarding the peace of the capital. The other is a thief whose identity and whereabouts remain unknown: Black Lizard.
On Christmas Eve, as the city’s main avenues glitter with festive illuminations, the destinies of these two figures are about to intertwine...
